Stick Shooter
A free arcade shooter that runs in the browser, on a phone or on a desktop. Everything is drawn in chalk on a blackboard. You are the stick figure at the bottom. Drag anywhere to move, and your gun fires on its own — there is no fire button to hunt for with your thumb.
Nothing to download, nothing to install, no sign-up, no ads and nothing to buy. Open the page and you are playing. Your best score is remembered in your own browser and never leaves your device.
How to play
- On a phone or tablet: drag your finger anywhere on the board. The stick figure moves by the same distance your finger did, so your thumb never covers the action. Tap to start, and tap to retry.
- On a desktop: the left and right arrow keys, or A and D, or a click-and-drag with the mouse. Space or Enter to start. P or Escape to pause.
- Firing is automatic. Your only job is where to stand.
- White helps, red hurts. That single rule covers every object in the game.
What is in it
- Three hand-drawn levels, each with its own enemy mix and a boss at the end.
- Rocks that are cover: they soak the boss's shots, and burst for points if you drill through them.
- Pick-ups — rapid fire, a spread shot, an extra heart, and sludge, which slows your gun down and is the one white-looking thing you should dodge.
- Clear all three and the game loops back to the start, faster, and keeps going for as long as you can hold on.
- A best score and best level kept in your browser between visits.
Questions
Is Stick Shooter really free?
Yes. It is free to play, with no adverts, no in-app purchases, no premium currency and no account. There is no paid version and nothing is withheld.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. It is a web page. It runs in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac or Linux. On a phone you can add it to your home screen and it will open full-screen like an app.
Does it work on mobile?
It was built mobile-first. The board is a portrait shape and scales to fit whatever screen it finds, and the controls are a relative drag, which is the standard for this kind of game on a touchscreen. It works just as well with a keyboard on a desktop.
Is my data collected?
No. There is no analytics, no tracking and no server. The only thing stored is your best score, kept in your own browser's local storage.
Who made it?
Zubin Ray, mostly as an experiment in building a complete small game with AI. It is a sibling of Star Map, a free interactive chart of the night sky.
